A New Tutoring Format

Due to the difficulty of making everyone's schedules work together so that we could meet for in-person tutoring, we have developed the ability for students to remotely receive, high-quality tutoring directly in their own homes. We highly recommend Google's Hangout service, which is available to anyone with a Gmail account and Google Plus. Students and tutors must be registered for Google Plus, which then makes available to "Hangout". (For a brief video about Hangout, Click Here.)

3J Test Prep has pioneered the use of this technology with students in the Metro Atlanta area. Beginning in January 2013, we tutored students remotely, rather than convening for in-person tutoring. Our groundbreaking test cohort was a group of students from northern Fulton County.  These boys had a significant after school commitment due to their basketball practice schedule. Thanks to Google Hangout, we convened regularly to provide the boys with guided SAT tutoring throughout basketball season. Their commitment to their team paid off with significant success on the court, and they still were able to prepare themselves for the March SAT. The results were impressive: two students, through extreme dedication, each raised their scores over 200 points. They labored hard for great rewards.

When students and tutors are "hanging out", they are able to see and hear one another.  Additionally, they can exchange onscreen information in the form of Microsoft Office Suite materials. Some students have reported being unable to view onscreen sharing, and so they have received digital copies of the materials via emails. In this way, everyone can literally be on the same page without ever being in the same room.  We welcome parents to join us for the tutoring sessions if they are interested in seeing and hearing how the format of this online presentation can benefit their students.
